Feb 18 - Landscapes in Watercolour with Jake Mol

Spend a day with Jake Mol immersed in the world of painting in watercolour. Improve your skills. Paint landscapes, snow, water and waterfalls or buildings, any or all of them. The choice is yours. Jake paints all of them. Learn his techniques and approaches to the subject matter, take advantage of the skills he has learned painting plein air in many parts of Canada and how he applies those skills to a new painting. Jake will do an introduction, including discussion and a demonstration in watercolour. The rest of the day will be time to paint, with one-on-one guidance and comment from Jake.

Feb 6 - Lunch at the Globe with Michael McGowan, Film & Movie Director

Please join us for lunch with Film & Movie Director Michael McGowan. 

Michael won a Directors Guild of Canada award for his second feature film, Saint Ralph (2005), about a boy who believes he needs a miracle to save his mother's life.

A gentle reminder that we have reluctantly raised our price for the luncheons and speakers to $20.00.

DAC Artist in the Spotlight: Artist Under Glass- Bridget Wilson

 

"I have always been a practical person. I want my work to reflect that. As beautiful as 'glass' can be on its own, it can also be functional. From my panels, room-dividers and tables to platters, bowls and garden art, there is no limit." – Bridget Wilson

Intrigued by the variation created by light passing through colour and texture, Bridget marveled at the ever-changing palettes that could be created with stained glass. It was here that she believed she could take a contemporary approach to a traditional art form.

So following a lengthy career in the field of Human Resources, Bridget decided to return to the arts, her true inspiration and passion. Having attended York University's Fine Arts Program, she continued to expand her knowledge by participating in many workshops and self-study.

Since the inception of her business Bridget Wilson Art-Glass & Design over ten years ago, Bridget has applied her knowledge and enthusiasm towards the design, fabrication and installation of essentially flat pieces of glass into artistically functional furniture and accent pieces. These creations can be seen in homes and businesses across North America.

While continuing to work with Stained Glass and Mosaics, Bridget has embarked on a new journey into the world of Fused and Slumped glass. The fluidity of the molten glass is unpredictable thus creating something that is truly one of a kind. Using primarily black and iridized glass has produced some original stunning and elegant pieces.

Recently Bridget's talent was recognized by the Dufferin Arts Council with receipt of the Reed T Cooper Bursary in Visual Arts. Established by the Council in 2007, this award of $3,000 is made annually to a local professional artist who displays a unique talent and potential for excellence and is made possible through generous donations to the Bursary fund by members of the Arts Council.

January 21 - Getting to an Abstract Painting with Didi Gadjanski

For many artists, the world of abstract painting is a mystery. How do you get from an image, a photograph or a drawing, to an abstract painting of the image.

Come and spend a day with Didi Gadjanski and learn how to construct an abstract painting, how to get from an image to something that has visual coherence and is not just a random mess of colour. The workshop will be directed to construction of an abstract painting, what are the elements that you need to understand so that the painting has visual appeal, what is the thinking process, what are the steps and so on.

There will be two demonstrations, both in acrylic, one based on a floral image and the other based on a landscape. However, the workshop is not restricted to painting with acrylics. There will be many opportunities for questions, as well as for painting, and critique and guidance from Didi.

Please arrive 15 minutes early to allow time for set up. Tea/coffee and snacks will be complimentary but please bring your own lunch (optionally your own coffee cup).

Jan 11 to Feb 29 - Life Drawing Classes

Winter Session: Wednesday Jan 11 – Feb 29 (8 weeks) 7 pm to 10 pm
Spring Session: Wednesday Mar 21 – May 9 (8 weeks) 7 pm to 10 pm

Cost $160. No instructor

Life drawing sessions available at an in home studio located near Shelburne. Artists work from a live nude model in the style and medium of their choice (please refrain from using solvents in class). Typically the group works through a series of short warm-up poses before settling into longer sustained poses.

Both male and female models will take part. Class size is limited to six artists. All experience levels are welcome to register. Drawing boards are provided and three easels are available for use – please bring your own materials.
